Assumption Academy presents, The Servant of Two Masters, an adaptation of the zany slapstick comedy by Carlo Goldoni.
Summary:
Federigo Rasponi is dead. At least that is what everyone believes until he and his servant Dino crash the engagement party of the two most powerful crime families in Venice. Rasponi announces that he has a prior claim to Clarice, the fiancée of Silvio Lombardi, and that Don Bisagnosi owes him a pile of cash. The champagne goes flat. Don Lombardi threatens revenge. But not everything is as it appears with this mysterious master and his zany servant.
The plot thickens when the dashing Florindo Aretusi arrives in Venice. He is fleeing from the law, searching for his fiancée Beatrice, and in desperate need of… a porter. Dino sees a golden opportunity to double his income and do the impossible. No servant can serve two masters? Dino Battocchio of Bergamo will give it a shot.
Set in 1930’s Italy, The Servant of Two Masters is an adaptation of the Commedia dell’arte play by Carlo Goldoni written in 1746. Originally performed as a comedy of masks (the original slapstick), this adaptation is a tribute to some of the greatest comic geniuses of the early 20th century, such as the Marx Brothers, Laurel & Hardy, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and Charlie Chaplin. Laugh with us at these mad machinations and don’t forget to “get your tuitsi fruitsi ice cream”!
